Parte I: L'Esodo
N. 1 - RECITATIVO DEL TENORE
Now there arose a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph; and he set over Israel taskmasters to afflict them with burthens, and they made them serve with rigour.	Ora Ma guida, dell'Egitto assurse un nuovo re, che non conosceva Giuseppe; e agli israeliti assegnò dei sorveglianti affinché li affliggessero con grandi lavori di fatica; e i sorveglianti li costrinsero con severo rigore alla servitù.
N. 2 - CONTRALTO E CORO
And children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and their cry came up unto God. They oppressed them with burthens, and made them serve with rigour; and their cry came up unto God.	E i figli d'Israele si lamentarono per la loro schiavitù, e le loro grida salirono sino a Dio. Li opprimevano con grandi lavori di fatica, e li costringevano con severo rigore alla servitù.
N. 3 - RECITATIVO DEL TENORE
Then sent He Moses, His servant, and Aaron whom He had chosen; these shewed His signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He turned their waters into blood.	Allora Dio inviò loro Mosè, suo servitore, ed Aronne, secondo la propria scelta; questi si fecero conoscere da loro come messi di Dio e realizzarono dei prodigi nella terra di Ham. Le acque si tramutarono in sangue.
N. 4 - CORO
They loathed to drink of the river. He turned their waters into blood.	Sentirono ripugnanza a bere l'acqua del fiume: perché quell'acqua s'era tramutata in sangue.
N. 5 - ARIA DEL CONTRALTO
Their land brought forth frogs, yea, even in their king's chambers. He gave their cattle over to the pestilence; blotches and blains broke forth on man and beast.	La loro terra fu invasa dalle rane, si davvero, persino nelle stanze del re. Il bestiame fu preda d'una rovinosa pestilenza; pustole e tumori contagiarono uomini e animali.
N. 6 - CORO
He spake the word, and there came all manner of flies and lice in all their quarters. He spake: and the locusts came without number, and devoured the fruits of the ground.	Pronunciò il verbo: ed ogni sorta di mosche e di pidocchi si abbattè sull'intero loro territorio. Egli parlò: e le locuste si fecero innumerevoli e divorarono i frutti della loro terra.
N. 7 - CORO
He gave them hailstones for rain; fire mingled with the hail ran along upon the ground.	In luogo iella pioggia inviò loro chicchi di grandine; lingue di fuoco, frammiste alla grandine, percorsero devastatrici la terra.
N. 8 - CORO
He sent a thick darkness over the land, even darkness which 'I might be felt.	Egli mandò su tutta la terra una fitta oscurità, talmente fitta da potersi toccare con mano.
N. 9 - CORO
He smote all the first-born of Egypt, the chief of all their strength.	Egli soppresse tutti i primogeniti d'Egitto, il nucleo dell'intera loro potenza.
N. 10 - CORO
But as for His people, He led them forth like sheep: He brought them out with silver and gold; there was not one feeble person among their tribes.	Per quanto riguarda però il suo popolo, egli ne curò la partenza occupandosene con la premura del buon pastore. Lo condusse fuori dal pericolo con l'argento e con l'oro: tra le loro tribù nessuno fu trascurato né ignorato.
N. 11 - CORO
Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them fell upon them.	L'Egitto si allietò per la loro partenza, perché il timore di loro era ricaduto sugli egiziani stessi.
N. 12 - CORO
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it was dried up.	Egli rimproverò il Mar Rosso ed esso si prosciugò.
N. 13 - CORO
He led them through the deep as through a wilderness.	Egli condusse il suo popolo attraverso l'abisso come attraverso il deserto.
N. 14 - CORO
But the waters overwhelmed their enemies, there was not 1 one of them left.	Ma i flutti sommersero i nemici, nessuno dei quali sopravvisse.
N. 15 - CORO
And Israel saw that great work that the Lord did upon the Egyptians; and the people feared the Lord.	Ed Israele contemplò la grande opera che il Signore aveva compiuto con gli Egiziani; e il popolo ebbe timore del Signore.
N. 16 - CORO
And believed the Lord and His servant Moses.	Ed ebbe fede nel Signore e in Mosè, suo servitore.
Parte II: Il canto di Mosè
N. 17 - CORO
Moses and the children of Israel sung this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying:	Mosè e i figli d'Israele intonarono questo canto al Signore, cominciando con il dire:
N. 18 - CORO
I will sing unto the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hat He thrown into the sea.	Canterò la lode del Signore perché ha trionfato nella gloria, precipitando nel mare il cavallo e il suo cavaliere.
N. 19 - DUETTO DI SOPRANI
The Lord is my strength and my song. He is become my salvation.	Il Signore è la mia forza e il mio canto. Egli è il mio salvatore.
N. 20 - CORO
He is my God, and I will prepare Him an habitation; my father's God.	Egli è il mio Dio, ed io gli appronterò una dimora: Dio di mio padre.
N. 21 - CORO
And I will exalt Him.	Ed io lo esalterò.
N. 22 - DUETTO DI BASSI
The Lord is a man of war: Lord is His name. Pharaoh's cha-riots and his host hath He cast into the sea; his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.	Il Signore è un guerriero, si chiama il Signore. I carri del faraone, e i suoi armati, egli li ha fatti precipitare in mare. Anche i capi supremi annegarono nel Mar Rosso.
N. 23 - CORO
The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.	Le profondità del mare li hanno ricoperti, come pietre sono precipitati al fondo.
N. 24 - CORO
Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power; Thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.	La tua destra, o Signore, è ora gloriosa nella sua potenza: la tua destra, o Signore, ha fatto a pezzi il nemico.
N. 25 - CORO
And in the greatness of Thine excellency Thou hast overthrown them that rose up against Thee.	E nella grandezza della tua maestà, tu hai abbattuto quanti s'erano sollevati contro di te.
N. 26 - CORO
Thou sentest forth Thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.	Hai manifestato la tua collera, che li ha consunti come stoppia.
N. 27 - CORO
And with the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the dephts were congealed in the heart of the sea.	E con il soffio delle tue narici le acque del mare si raccolsero, i flutti si sollevarono come un muro, le onde profonde si raggelarono nel cuore del mare.
N. 28 - ARIA DEL TENORE
The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.	Il nemico disse: li inseguirò, li raggiungerò, ne dividerò le spoglie; la mia brama sarà soddisfatta da loro; estrarrò la mia spada: la mia mano li distruggerà.
N. 29 - ARIA DEL SOPRANO
Thou didst blow with the wind, the sea covered them; they sank as lead in the mighty waters.	Tu hai soffiato il vento: il mare li ha ricoperti, sono sprofondati come piombo nelle acque maestose.
N. 30 - CORO
Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?	Chi vi è come te, o Signore, tra le divinità? Chi vi è come te, glorioso nella santità, temibile nelle lodi, creatore di miracoli?
N. 31 - CORO
Thon stretchedst out Thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.	Tu hai steso la tua mano destra, la terra li ha inghiottiti.
N. 32 - DUETTO DI CONTRALTO E TENORE
Thou in Thy mercy hast led forth Thy people which Thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them in Thy strength unto Thy holy habitation.	Tu nella tua misericordia hai condotto alla salvezza il tuo popolo dopo averlo redento. Tu l'hai guidato con la tua potenza sino alla tua santa dimora.
N. 33 - CORO
The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on them: all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away: by the greatness of Thy arm they shall be as still as a stone; till Thy people pass over, O Lord, which Thou hast purchased.	I popoli dovranno ascoltare e aver paura: il dolore dovrà imporsi a loro; tutti gli abitanti di Canaan, fondendosi, svaniranno per la grandezza del tuo braccio. Diverranno inerti come pietre, sin quando il tuo popolo li oltrapasserà, o Signore, sin quando il tuo popolo oltrepasserà quelli che tu hai acquisito.
N. 34 - ARIA DEL CONTRALTO
Thon shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of Thine inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, the Sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established.	Tu li condurrai e ne fisserai la, dimora sulla montagna che ti appartiene, nel luogo, o Signore, che hai scelto per la tua dimora, nel santuario, o Signore, che le tue mani hanno fondato.
N. 35 - CORO
The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.	Il Signore regnerà nei secoli dei secoli.
N. 36 - RECITATIVO DEL TENORE
For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.	Dal momento che il cavallo del faraone ha seguito il destino dei suoi carri e con i suoi cavalieri è precipitato in mare, e il Signore ha fatto si che le acque del mare, ritornando, li ricoprissero, invece i figli d'Israele poterono attraversare il centro del mare come se fosse una landa asciutta.
N. 37 - CORO
The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.	Il Signore regnerà nei secoli dei secoli.
N. 38 - RECITATIVO DEL TENORE
And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam answered them:	E Miriam, la profetessa, sorella di Aronne, prese in mano un tamburello, e tutte le donne la seguirono con i tamburelli e le danze, e Miriam rispose loro:
N. 39 - ASSOLO DEL SOPRANO E CORO
Sing ye to the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea. I will sing unto the Lord for He hath triumphed gloriously.	Cantate il Signore perché ha trionfato nella gloria; il cavallo e il suo cavaliere, Egli li ha sprofondati nel mare. Io canterò la lode del Signore perché ha trionfato nella gloria.
